Christie’s Hong Kong: Iconic Wines from Joseph Lau

By

Michelle Chan, Head of Wine, Christie’s Asia Pacific, presents the collection of esteemed art collector and entrepreneur Joseph Lau, kicking off the auction house’s sale season with five single-owner sales across Christie's global offices.

The historic sale, which will take place on April 13th, will feature 89 lots of Lau’s “most impeccable and rarest wines”, as the collector himself puts it. It features what Lau describes as his ‘top favourites’ from the most iconic regions, including Bordeaux and Burgundy, at an estimated value of more than HKD24 million (US$3 million).

Chan expressed Christie’s honour of hosting the sale: “We are thrilled about the opportunity of offering Mr. Lau’s magnificent bottles as we continue to bring the most prominent single-owner collections to the market.” Chan also highlighted that “the collection features not only the most distinguished wines and vintages but also very hard to find formats.”

Among the sale’s most prized lots are rare large format offerings of DRC Romanée-Conti 1989 to 2005, a selection of flagship vintages of Vosne-Romanée Cros-Parantoux by Henri Jayer from 1986 to 1999 (in magnum), as well as an impressive roster of Bordeaux First Growth vintages, produced between 1982 and 2003, from legendary estates including Lafite Rothschild, Mouton Rothschild, Latour, as well as Lafleur, Pétrus, and Cheval Blanc.

This collection will be immediately followed by 400 other lots of exquisite wines from various owners during the Finest and Rarest Wines live auction. The line up includes the most sought after bottles from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Italy, Spain and the U.S.

Bidders will be able to take part in person, at Christie’s Hong Kong’s Alexandra House saleroom, as well as virtually, via Christies.com or Christies pioneering WeChat miniprogram.

WeChat users can easily create an online bidding account and place absentee bids. Christie’s Customer Service Team will guide users through the account opening process, for which they will need a personal identification document such as photo ID, proof of address, or financial reference.
