Tip of the day #27 How to store wine if you don’t have a wine cellar? (I)

If you don’t have a nice underground wine cellar, which I’m lucky enough to have, there are certain rules you will absolutely have to abide by if you want to store your wine correctly.

Temperature

A classic wine cellar is about 12℃, so keep your wine under the temperature between 8-15℃. What you must avoid is height variations—so don’t store your wine in the kitchen, as the kitchen will be very hot when you are cooking, and not so hot when you stop cooking.

Humidity

All good cellars have to have a certain amount of humidity. Because if you don’t have humidity, the cork will actually dry out. The wine should, by the way, be served on their sides, lying down. It doesn’t matter so much with crew cork, because no air can get in.
